I was very interested to notice two distinct narratives developing within this film. The first states: ‘we are destroying the earth: we must take care of it so that it can take care of us.’ While the second says: ‘we are destroying our civilisation by adversely altering our environmental conditions.’
Perhaps this inconsistency has come about due to an editorial decision to emphasise emotive narrative. Surely the earth will go on existing in its material state whether or not we humans are alive upon it. So it seems rather anthropocentric to insist that the earth and ourselves are one and the same.
I don’t see how there can be a right answer to this perplexing divergence. This is the rupture caused by ‘the long view’ of the earth rising over the moon.
